And you know what I think: we are no better or worse than any other country in the world. Why? Because every country's behavior, within and without their nation, affects the world at large. Yes, we out source, but it takes two to tango. If the countries accepting things like out sourcing would tell us to fuck off and stop exploiting their people, then it would not exist. In that same respect, if other nations had not supported the war in Iraq at its outset, we would not be there. It simply would have been impossible. Bush did not just fool America; he fooled a lot of leaders around the world. Some may argue that he had plans, big plans, with leaders of other nations (::ahem:: Tony Blair), but that fact remains that we were all duped. And I have to say, Shains: part of the reason it worked is because the entire world carried on this WWII, John Fucking Wayne, General Patton, illusion of the American calvary coming to save the day. G Dubs banked on America's history as "liberators" to convince us we are righteous. We were never liberators. We were always isolationists, since we broke from the colonies. We always did what was fiscally best; as you said, we made the choice to be capitalists. America would have stayed of WWII had it not been for Pearl Harbor. Our leaders could give a fuck about genocide, but somehow it is always the kicker, the thing that gets Americans in a uproar. In that way, yes, we are emotional teenagers. I agree that we have not had the longevity to foresee these bullshiting leaders walking us into the fire. As for the concept of travel: I agree that most Americans are more concerned with getting the newest best most ridiculous electronic or mechanic or plastic bullshit rather than traveling because we are simply not taught to value that experience. Fucking capitalists. We want to stay here and amass more. How can we do that if we are constantly traveling? It costs more here, as you said, because we are so isolated from the rest of the world and have a huge nation of our own to get to know. That is why the American roadtrip is so important to so many families. So partly it's geographical, and partly it is simple socialization.
