Voting

I just recieved my absentee ballot in the mail.  This is possibly the most exciting thing that has happened to me all month.  I have done very cool things this month as well, but I have to say that I didn’t think that I would get it before I left for South Africa.  And, I did!  I get to vote.  I know I am 23 and the last election and primaries I was over 18 so I was allowed to vote, but I was in South Africa.  I got my absentee ballot there, but alas, they sent a letter saying my vote didn’t count.  I am not sure why?  Maybe they dont count the ballots if the winner’s votes are more than all the ballots they sent out?  Who know’s but finally I get to count and I am actually into this campaign.  I read an article today about Hillary Clinton and she is rockin’ my world.  I love it when people call her a socialist and say that we don’t want communism in our country.

In Florida, again

Unfortunately I cannot seem to leave Florida for longer than a month.  I love the heat and the fact that I get to wear my Birks but, I hate it here.  It just reminds me of feeling like I’m going through puberty again.  It is terrible.

My brother is getting married, which is great.  I like his fiance.  She is way cooler than he is, and trys to convince him he doesn’t need to talk to me like I am still 10 wearing my gymnastic uniform with a side bun and pink blush on my cheeks.   She had a bridal shower yesterday and I didnt buy her anything, but she got a lot of crap, serving bowls, plates, wooden dishes.  Who knows what.   My 15 year old cousin was bored out of her mind.  My moms sisters and that side of the family was talking the whole time Alison ( brother’s fiance) was talking.  THey are so pridicatable.  They were late too.    My 2 cousins who are about my age didn’t come, and one cousin from Miami who my brother is not close to came, mostly because her mother made her.

This is boring.  I hate florida.  I am teaching English online.  I think I am going to move to California in the next 10 years.

“boys have ruled the world long enough and now it’s the girls turn. “

Well, I think I’m in it for Hillary.  I have thought about it and been doing some research.  I liked her at first, I’ll have to admit, mainly because she is a woman and she’s strong and powerful, but now I really like her.  No politician is going to change things right away, so I don’t expect anything to happen immediately. And it is going to take a long long long fricken time to fix the workings of my stupid president as it is.   I know she changes her mind, but so does everyone.  I don’t believe the same things I did when I was 18 because I have learned more about a situation, and learned things about myself.  I think that a president should be flexible and willing to go with the voice of the vote.  If Bush was like that now then we might not be at war any longer.  When you realize a mistake you must try to recognize it and fix it, not just ignore it.

Anyway, it really bothers me that people write things about her being a woman and are so afraid to write anythin about Barak being black.  It’s like people let it slide or think it’s just a joke to say she’s a bitch, or wave t-shirts and tells her to iron them.  But if anyone called Barak Jim Crow, or worse. people would go fucking nuts, and call that person a biggot.

I think she’ll win.  Oh and not to bring up Maya and Soli again, but they think she should win too, because “boys have ruled the world long enough and now it’s the girls turn. “

Playing with Maya and Soli

Yesterday I was babysitting Maya and her friend Soli came over for a play date.  They are both 8.  They are best friends, bff aaf.  They tell each other secrets and whisper in the back seat of my car.  I ask them what they are talking about and they giggle.  My best friend growing up was Stephanie Spadaro.  Whenever Soli and Maya are together I think of her and the stupid things we did.  I remember cutting her dogs hair, and going too far and cutting it into a mohawk.  I was grounded by her mother.   I slept over on school nights, slept in her bed, hung out, swam, and did everything with.  I called her Bubbie, Bubbie.  I remember finding roaches, not the bug,  in her dad’s room.    She had a waterbed.  She got a cool car that we rode around in and I had to push back around the block.

They are only 8 and in 3rd grade, which is only the beginning of their best friendship.  They are starting to make up songs and skits and special jokes that I have no idea what they mean.  They hit each other and make up silly games.

I always think about the relationship I have had with my girl friends, especially growing up, especially Stephanie.  I knew everything about her, and now she’s not so different.  I am sure if we were together, we’d have the same connection.
